9 Amazing Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Is there a way for ordinary people to get the supernatural power? The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit comes to empower us through His amazing gifts. What are these gifts and how they operate? Every born again Christian should know the truth!

You can read about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12: 7–11. Let’s take a closer look at each of them.

1. Wisdom

What is wisdom? And how it differs from knowledge or intellect? Well, wisdom endows you with the ability to know how to apply the knowledge. For instance, you know how to tilt land, sow and gather gain. But does it mean you know how to make much money on it and start your successful business? No!

Many people know how to do things, but they have no idea of how to apply the knowledge to receive profit. That’s what wisdom is for. If you lack it, just ask God to give it to you and let the Holy Spirit teach you His lessons.

2. Word of knowledge

Knowledge or understanding may come to us through different channels. One of them is supernatural. If you have read the book of Daniel, you know that God has given Daniel and his friends a super ability to understand sciences, languages and other knowledge.

When God empowers you in your studies, you have no limit to what you can do. However, all such things have to be for the good; your own good and that of others.

3. Faith

We all have faith. You cannot please God without it. But the gift of faith is more than what we all have. It’s a supernatural ability to see what is unseen and firmly stand on it. When you have the manifestation of this gift, you simply know that you know that you know it’s true! You have no worries or anxiety. You stand on that faith and become able to put your life on it.

4. Healing

Surely, we all as Christians should pray for the sick and lay hands. However, some people have been endowed with the power to perform miracles of healing. It’s your calling and you know how it operates under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. You do not do it with your power, but with His.

5. Working of miracles

This one is tricky. In Africa you can find ministers doing all sorts of weird things in churches calling them miracles. Recently the police have even caught a “miracle team”. These people traveled from church to church and faked the miracles for the pastors.

True miracles are not made to entertain the crowd or to glorify the pastor! They are done to glorify God and help people. Church is not a circus. People run after miracles, when in reality they need to chase God. True miracles serve for good and help people, moving them to praise God.

6. Prophecy

This is when you hear the Lord and become able to communicate His thoughts and ideas to people. The key word here is HIS. So many prophets claim to speak from God, but in reality they just seek the glory from the men. Here is what the Bible tells us about the prophesy:

“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” (1 Corinthians 14:3)

Some people pronounce judgment and curses. It’s not Biblical.  God loves us. Yes, at times He can discipline us urging to pick safer paths in life. However, His word edifies and comforts.

7. Discerning of spirits

This gift is crucial. Most Christians can exercise it. It is given to keep you safe. People may say the right things, but they come from the wrong spirit. That’s how deception is formed.

8. Tongues

Most people in Charismatic churches possess this gift. God gives you a divine ability to pray in tongue. It works so great when you do not know how to pray about things or people. At times, when you pray, you get the general idea of what the petition is about.

9. Interpretation of tongues

This is when you or someone else is praying in tongues, but you know what they are saying and can interpret it to the church. This gift is similar to prophesy.

The major condition under which God gives us the gifts of Holy Spirit is this:

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

They should be used for the profit of all and not selfishly for your own benefit only or for your personal glorification!
