Yahoo says hackers stole data from 500 million accounts in 2014

— September 23, 2016 Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) said on Thursday that at least 500 million of its accounts were hacked in 2014 by what it believed was a state-sponsored actor, a theft that appeared to be the world’s biggest known cyber breach by far. Cyber thieves may have stolen names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth and encrypted passwords, the company said. But unprotected passwords, payment card data and bank account information did not appear to have been compromised, signaling that some of the most valuable user data was not taken. The attack on Yahoo was unprecedented in size, more than triple other large attacks on sites such as eBay Inc (EBAY.O), and it comes to light at a difficult time for Yahoo. Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer is under pressure to shore up the flagging fortunes of the site founded in 1994, and the company in July agreed to a $4.83 billion cash sale of its internet business to Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N). “This is the bigge

India wastes tonnes of food every year without blinking an eye

Image
Sep 23, 2016  At some point of time or other, you must have come across a group of urchins looking for food leftovers in the dustbin. It is indeed a common sight. Now hold on to that picture in your mind and read this -  According to Hindustan Times, around 67 million tonnes of food is wasted in India every year, which has a value of around Rs 92,000 crore. This value l6equals nearly two-thirds of the amount that the government needs to feed 600 million poor Indians with subsidised ration under the National Food Security programme. Here are some more alarming facts that show how much food wastage there actually is: 1.India wastes as much food as is consumed by the United Kingdom, says the CSR journal. 2.According to a written statementgiven to the parliament in 2013 by former agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, nearly 40% of the total produce is wasted every year in the country.   3. The age of occultism and human sacrifices in Nigeria

Image
witchcraft, occultism and human sacrifices are practices that offends God.These sacrifices comes in various forms. Some kill their victims and remove vital organs for rituals. Others bury human and animals alive.Others deplore spiritual means to achieve the same purposes. These include summoning the victim's spirit on a mirror, where he or she will stabbed to death,or taking the victim's name pictures or property to demonic shrines. When any of these is done, the victims die in their homes without anybody tracing the cause of their sudden demise. But God commands that we must not kill(commit murder).  Exodus 20:13,He said "Thou shall not kill"That is do not murder another human being for whatever purpose. It violates God's commandment.God also warned Israel not to use their children(or any other person)for sacrifice." Do not give any of your children as a sacrifice to Moloch, for you profane the name of your God.I am your LORD.(Leviticus 18:21). Moloch

Muagaya pushes for Mugabe's impeachment

Image
The increasingly vocal local Church, alarmed by the country's escalating political and economic crises, as well as the current crackdown on dissenting voices by panicking authorities, is pressing President Robert Mugabe to call for an emergency national dialogue, fearing a repeat of the Gukurahundimassacres of the early 1980s. In an unprecedented petition that was submitted to Mugabe's offices on Monday, the forthright leader of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny, Ancelimo Magaya, also warned that the clergy would push for the nonagenarian's impeachment if he did not heed their call. This came as police yesterday re-arrested the spokesperson of radical pressure group Tajamuka/Sesjikile, Promise Mkwananzi, as jittery authorities crank up their brutal assault of the past few weeks on dissenting voices in the country. At the same time, opposition parties - whose planned countrywide protests last weekend were ruthlessly crushed by police - are upping the ante by organising fr

When Rajesh questioned this, he was told that Xolelwa’s genes had ‘overpowered’ his and that was why the baby wasn’t of mixed race. He believed it. Did Dr Robert Gallo create AIDS

Image
Health, News A site run by a friendly and reasonably honest woman I know recently reposted a text titled “The Man Who Created AIDS: Robert Gallo.” The text went super-viral, over 80,000 shares on Facebook alone. Once I read it, I was aghast at how much misinformation and how many scientifically illiterate statements were in the text and attached video. I wrote her explaining my reasoning, and she immediately agreed to take down the text. It still exists on other, less responsible, sites. Unfortunately, a large part of the damage has already been done, and that among other articles has helped foster the continued existence of a completely unfounded theory based primarily on not understanding what a patent is in molecular biology. A patent on Ebola or HIV is not the same as a patent on an engine. Whereas the engine’s patent is reserving the production of that type of engine to the patent holder, a patent on HIV or Ebola is a patent meant to specify how the virus was isolat

Think twice before you decide to divorce

Image
READ THIS BEFORE YOU HAVE A DIVORCE - Before You Throw In The Towel - Do You Know... (First published in September 2016) Remarrriages have a higher failure rate than first marriages. We think if we just change partners, our problems will be solved. Not so. And if there are children involved, you'll turn some perfectly nice person into a stepmother or stepfather. In remarriages with children – stepfamilies – the divorce rate is even higher. Our research estimates that 55-60% of marriages that end in divorce fall into the category of "good enough marriages". These marriages appear to be functioning well only a year or so prior to the divorce. From a child's perspective, these divorce are unexpected, inexplicable, and unwelcome and are thus most likely to harm children. These marriages are significantly more likely to divorce because of infidelity, which they blame on "drifting apart" or "communication problems". These 50-60% of divorces

Fighting is good in a relationship

Image
Relationship Talk: Reasons why fighting is good for your relationship It proves you're completely honest with each other There’s a very chance that if you exposed the whole of yourself to your partner, there will be one or two things about you that they will not be too happy about, hence the need for a change. If you can voice your concern, stand up for your opinion, especially about something you’re not comfortable about, and argue with your partner about it, it proves that you’re honest enough and actually willing to make the relationship work. On the other hand, you could always pretend at all times that all is fine when you are actually not cool with anything at all. And really, that’s just totally uncool. If you don't fight and quarrel the relationship will be boring.fighting will make you understand each other and know each other's likes and dislikes. It proves you're not intimidated by one another As opposed to an abusive relationship [which you sh

Bill Cosby's lawyers are claiming racism

Image
For the First Time, Bill Cosby's Lawyers Claim Racism Associated Press Bill Cosby (C) departs after a pretrial hearing in his sexual assault case at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., Sept. 6, 2016. PHILADELPHIA — Bill Cosby has long preached the gospel of personal responsibility to fellow blacks, irritating those who fault racism for holding the community back. But now lawyers for the 79-year-old comedian have suggested for the first time that racial bias is to blame as Cosby faces the prospect of 13 women testifying in court that he drugged and molested them. Twelve of them are white. Cosby's legal team raised the issue on the courthouse steps Tuesday after a hearing in his criminal sex assault case in suburban Philadelphia. Whether they intend to bring up race in the courtroom remains to be seen. At a minimum, some legal experts said the defense is trying to influence potential jurors. Dangote calls for single African passport

Aliko Dangote Wants a One Passport for The African Continent… Posted on Sep 20 2016 - 10:10am In a recent interview with CNBC Africa, Aliko Dangote, who is the richest man in Nigeria, has said that African leaders need to remove the barriers that stop other African nationals from gaining ease into their countries. He says it is hampering business… ”Our leaders must give incentives. For example, little things like visa issuance. You go to a country that is looking for investment, that particular country will give you a run around just to get a visa. You have to know somebody who is big in that country to call somebody. They are giving you visas as if it is a favour. Somebody like me, despite the size of our group, I need 38 visas to move around Africa. Yes, I’ve heard that they are going to do the (African) passport, but you can see that there is still a little bit of resistance from other African leaders. Even countries like Rwanda and co, that say no visas for Africa

Aftermath of terrorist failed attempts to mass murder Americans

Image
President Barack Obama worked to calm Americans' jitters Monday after a series of attempts at mass violence, suggesting that yielding to fear amounted to a win for terrorists. "I think it is important to remember what terrorists and violent extremists are trying to do. They are trying to hurt innocent people, but they also want to inspire fear in all of us, and disrupt the way we live to undermine our values," Obama said. "We all have a role to play as citizens in making sure that we don't succumb to that fear. And there is no better example of that than the people of New York and New Jersey." The President was speaking from a hotel in midtown Manhattan, where he's attending his final United Nations General Assembly meeting. Two miles south, in Chelsea, investigations were still piecing together evidence following a bomb explosion in a dumpster Saturday night, which injured dozens. The attack appeared linked to another explosion in Seaside Park
