 The caretaker committee chairman of Zaki local government area of Bauchi State, Alhaji Muhammad Yalwaji Sakwa is dead. Sakwa died in a car accident in Gada area, alongside his driver. A statement by the Special Assistant to the Bauchi State governor on Communications, Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, yesterday announced the incident. Sakwa who was sworn in alongside 19 other caretaker chairmen only in August, and his driver were buried Sunday evening yesterday according to Islamic rites. Bauchi State APC Publicity Secretary, Auwal Jallah described Sakwa as a cool tempered and grassroots politician whose death was a great loss to the state, the party and the people of Zaki local government area. Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of Anka Local Government Area in Zamfara, Alhaji Yahuza Ibrahim, kidnapped last week is still being held.

 Four pupils of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Oyo and a driver were crushed to death in a fatal accident few kilometres away from the school gate on Sunday. Also, five other pupils were injured in the accident. The deceased pupils, Olubukola John, SS3; Taibat Giwa, SS3; Mojisola Ladipo, SS1; and Mariam Ibirogba, JSS 3; and those injured were returning to the school after observing mid-term break when the incident occured. The Public Relations Officer of the college, Mr. Akin Omitade, told newsmen on Monday that the accident occurred at a market when an overloaded truck carrying bags of food stuff lost its balance while trying to negotiate a narrow bend in the busy market. Kerosene explosion in Ikono Ibom Clan, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom has left two children of one Mr. Nsikak Michael dead, with three others injured. The incident was said to have occurred when Mr. Michael, who operates a small poultry farm near his residence in Ikot Enyingne Ikono, was trying to light up a lantern to keep the birds warm in their cage. The Nation quoted the victim as saying: “I bought kerosene from a filling station along Idoro road as I closed from my Keke business. “Upon getting home, I decided to light up the lantern in my poultry farm to keep my birds warm but needed to top up the kerosene in the lamp as it was soon going off. “So I came out of the poultry farm just as my kids followed.  There was confusion in Delta State on Saturday as a wedding reception ended half-way, following the bride’s pronouncement that she was no longer interested in the few-hours-old marriage. Ghanaian spine and brain surgeon warns against wearing of high heels One of Ghana's most renowned neurosurgeon (doctor who treats spine and brain cases) at the Cocoa Clinic in Accra, Dr Kafui Tamakloe, warns that the wearing of high heels by women can cause deadly spine damages. Speaking at a health talk in Accra, Dr. Tamakloe bemoans that “more than 80 percent of health problems treated in the neurosurgical units are spine cases or the degenerative disc disease. Wear and tear of the spine affects the discs, bones, joints and ligaments of the spine".    An Agege Customary Court in Lagos State, has dissolved the 12-year-old marriage between Patrick Idoko and his wife, Udoka, over infidelity, lack of love and trust. Patrick, 40, described his wife as troublesome and uncaring. This incident happened at Oshodi, Lagos Friday. Two policemen allegedly pushed a man into a gutter while trying to arrest a commercial bus driver at Oshodi, Lagos state.  After the old man was pushed in the gutter, he seemed unconscious. Witnesses apprehended one of the police men while the  other escaped. They asked him to go into the gutter and take the old man out.  The policeman jumped in and picked the old man up, the man’s face was bruised,  he was bleeding ,his eyes were open but, he looked out of it and needed immediate medical help. At least 9 people were killed yesterday morning in Maiduguri after a Boko Haram suicide bomber tried to enter the Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri around 7am and another suicide bomber tried to enter the NNPC depot on Damboa road in a tricyle just 30 minutes later, according to eye-witnesses. 9 people were killed and many others injured. Sani Datta, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency said many of the injured have been taken to the hospital.

     A father was arrested after getting naked and throwing his baby over a fence. Richard Harris, 31, of Florida, was accused of aggravated child abuse for throwing his 4-month-old son over a wooden fence in his neighborhood. A witness called police after seeing Harris in the parking lot of her apartment complex. She told police that she saw the man holding a crying baby, but several minutes later, he returned without clothes and without the baby. Another neighbor flagged down an officer and reported that she found clothes that she did not recognize on her property. When police went to investigate, they heard the baby crying from the other side of the woman’s fence. Officers jumped over the tall fence and rescued the baby, who they said was lying face down. He was taken to a hospital for observation and treatment, and he is expected to fully recover. Police believe that Harris may have been under the influence of drugs when he acted strangely.     A Nigerian woman Oluremi Oyindasola, 66, of Glenarden, Maryland  Lagos working as a nanny has been arrested and  has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death and other offenses after police said she force fed an eight-month-old baby girl who then later died. Prince George’s County Police said Wednesday, a home surveillance system recorded Oyindasola taking a nap when the crying infant, eight-month-old Enita Salubi, approached her in a toddler walker. According to Police, Oyindasola unsuccessfully tried to feed the child, then when she got frustrated with the infant not wanting to eat, she ‘proceeded to pour a large amount of white liquid directly inside the victim’s mouth’. Blocks of classrooms were set ablaze in Oyo on Thursday, marking theworst phase of secondary school students’ unrest that began days ago over mass failure in exams. According to teachers, the classrooms set on fire were at Isale Community High School, Oyo Town. But students elsewhere have threatened to cause similar damage to public property in their schools. Crisis erupted on Monday following mass failure in the last promotion examinations across secondary schools in Oyo State.   A 30-year-old man, Tunde Ajani, who allegedly beat up a policeman, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Ajani, a resident of Ajegunle area of Apapa, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kokoye Olusegun, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 9 at Layeni Police Station, Ojo Road, Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos. Olusegun said that Ajani assaulted a police officer, Paul Okonkwo, by pulling his uniform and punching him, while performing his lawful duty. “The complainant said he was trying to explain an issue concerning the conduct of the accused to him, when he got angry and started rough handling him,’’ he said. The offences contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
