A FATHER who murdered the man who sexually abused his daughter has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in the United States.


Jay Maynor, from Alabama, pleaded guilty to shooting 59-year-old Raymond Earl Brooks dead in June 2014 during a court hearing on Monday.

The 43-year-old took a plea deal so his daughter Julia, who was molested by Brooks from the age of four, would not have to testify during a trial.

Julia, now 24 and a mum-of-three, was sexually abused between the ages of four and nine by Brooks, her adopted maternal grandfather.

Brooks pleaded guilty in 2002 and served 27 months of a five-year sentence, also paying restitution.



Ten years later, Maynor shot Brooks in an act of revenge – and also fired his gun into a shop where he spotted a man who had been dating his stepdaughter and allegedly abused her.

The man was unharmed, but Maynor was sentenced to 20 years for attempted murder.

Julia, who waived her right to anonymity, told Al.com: “My father was protecting me, like a father should do. He is an amazing father – actually the best. He loves us so much.

“I’ve tried counselling and that didn’t work and it’s still here today. I relive it every day. I struggle to get out of bed in the morning.”

In another interview with WVTM13, she added: “I overcame my PTSD, but now I have had to relive it all over again.

“Me and my husband are now going through a divorce because of it. I have completely pushed him out of my life”
