Bringing back memories of Robinson Street incident police recovered a body of a 60-plus lady from a refrigerator of her Behala residence where her son had allegedly preserved her body for over two years.
The incident happened at 25 SN Chatterjee Road.
It was found that Subhabrata Majumder (46), a meritorious student of Leather Technology had preserved his mother Bina Majumder’s body at home after she passed away in 2015. Neighbours said that his mother, a former government employee, was sick and had to be hospitalised where she died. Her body was brought back home but what happened after that no one knew.
“He had told us that time that his mother’s body had been kept at Peace Haven,” said a neighbour. Subhabrata’s father Gopal Majumder is also a retired government employee. It was also found out that Gopal had told Subhabrata to preserve the body because it could be brought back to life later.
Being a student of leather technology, Subhabrata had used chemicals to avoid rotting of the body. Police have recovered several containers of different chemicals which had been used. Police sources said that the intestinal parts of the body had been removed to avoid the stench, before mummification.
Subhabrata had also managed to get a living certificate for his mother and had been withdrawing her pension of Rs 50,000 per month (about 770.50 U.S Dollars.) from the bank. Police is trying to probe where he got the certificate from.
A team of police officials led by DC (south-west) Nilanjan Biswas carried out a search operation of Subhabrata’s residence based on a tip-off. Police also said that another identical freezer, big enough to accommodate a body had been recovered from Subhabrata’s residence. They are trying to find out if the second one was meant to story Subhabrata’s father’s body after his death.
Both Subhabrata and his father had been detained by police for questioning.
